The courses I offer focus on preparing for birth in a positive and calm way. Hypnobirthing can be a slightly off-putting term, but there are no pocket watches involved here and I won't be putting anyone in a trance!
There can be a perception that hypnobirthing courses are for people that are having home births or water births and no pain relief. You absolutely can take a hypnobirthing course if you are aiming to birth in this way, but you can also take a course if you are planning a hospital birth with all the pain relief options on offer (as well as anything in between - including a planned caesarean section).
Hypnobirthing is not as 'out there' as it may sound, it incorporates a range of techniques that are grounded in science (I've a background in Public Health so evidence is important to me). On a course we cover the physiology of birth - the hormones and muscles involved and how we actually birth a baby! Understanding this helps in terms of knowing what to expect, removing some of the fears that people may have about birth, but also understanding how we can work WITH our amazing bodies.
Many of us have worries, fears or anxieties around birth. Maybe a fear of the unknown or perhaps you have heard things that have left you with some worries. Whether you are scared, have a few worries or just want to be more informed then I can assure you KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. Hypnobirthing can help you feel more positive about birth - giving you faith in your body, but also arming you with lots of ways to manage sensations and stay calm.
If I do hypnobirthing right, then will birth be painless?? Firstly, there is no right or wrong way to do hypnobirthing. Just as there is no way to fail at birth. Some people do describe birthing without pain, so it is possible. But there are no guarantees and what I teach is about managing sensations and understanding what is happening so you can let your body get along with what it innately knows what to do.
Births can take lots of twists and turns, so understanding your choices is important. You may not end up with the perfect birth, but it can still be a really positive and empowering experience (I'm saying that as someone who has used hypnobirthing in a less than straightforward birth as well as a far more text book one).
I am a great believer in knowledge being power. Having information about what to expect, the choices you may be making, how your body works and how to work with it can help you feel more prepared and, crucially, in control.
Please do get in touch to discuss how a course could help you prepare for meeting your little one.
